Q: Sinus headaches?
I get sinus headaches all the time. Usually taking medicine will take care of it. Does anyone know of any natural cures for a sinus headache??
A: I’ve heard that using a nasal spray of saline mist (salt, basically) will help keep you from getting these headaches. Would that help? The Germans also suggest brewing strong chamomile ‘tea’ (with whole flowers when possible) and inhaling the steam vapors from that.
You can usually get whole dried chamomile flowers from a health food store. Put them into a large heatproof bowl and add boiling water to just cover the flowers. Stir a little. Use a towel to make a ‘tent’ over the bowl and put your head in under this little tent. That way, the steam doesn’t all escape without being of benefit to you first. Breathe through your nose, of course. Keep at this until there’s not much steam left. Repeat it twice a day until your sinuses are better.
Q: Sinus Headaches?
My allergies are worse this year, about an hour after I wake up I have to take Benadryl or Advil for the headaches….is there something else I can take besides pills?
I don’t want to keep on popping meds. all the time.
I use Claritin on some days but it doesn’t get rid of the sinus headaches.
I live in Canada and we don’t have Alive here but I did try it from a co-worker and it didn’t work, thanks anyway, but I don’t want to take any more pills
sorry its Aleve I think
A: This is Iman from Halifax,
As a health care professional and a person who struggled with allergies, asthma and sinus headaches for a long time i reccommend you visit the bellow website.
Q: sinus headaches?
i get really painful sinus headaches all the time i wen to the doctor but i just keep getting told its enviromental allergies I have been taking veramyst but i still get headaches. what should i do
A: Get a second opinion.
It may indeed be just allergies or it may be indication of something else. I’m not trying to scare you but there are some instances when surgery may be required.
Q: How best to prevent sinus headaches?
I get sinus headaches in the morning sometime losing alot of sleep. I have tried most common remedies but I still get one to three sinus headaches a week.
A: Drink lots of water. This will thin out the mucus that causes pressure in you sinuses. Also try taking two doses of odorless garlic pills 2x a day. It kills bacteria and may be stinky, but helps a TON. (I have sinus infections all the time)
Q: How do I get rid of Sinus headaches without taking any pills?
I get these horrible sinus headaches almost everyday…does anyone have a way to get rid of these dumb headaches?
A: First make sure you don’t have a sinus infection because that’s like trying to shovel snow in a blizzard. When it comes to your sinuses cold compresses work really well. I’d use one on your face and then one around the back of your neck. Like the other person mentioned, you can use some saline solution to help keep them moist and that can help cut down on pain. Rubbing your temples, under your nose, above your eyes, and cheekbones should help too. Drinking a ton of fluids can help too but avoid anything dairy because that can make sinus pain worse. I know it’s hot out but a hot shower where you get a lot of steam is another thing you can try. Good luck and hope you feel better!
Q: What over the counter medicine could I take every day to keep sinus headaches away?
I have sinus headaches every day. What could help me.
A: I would try Excedrin Sinus Headache first, which consists of:
Acetaminophen……………………….Pain reliever
Phenylephrine HCI 5 mg …..………..Nasal decongestant
or, if that does not work then I would go with Sudafed and Tylenol:
Sudafed consists of:
pseudoephedrine HCL 30 mg…………Nasal Decongestant
Tylenol consists of:
acetomenophin 500 mg………………..Analgesic
Note that it does not matter whether you get name brands or store brands, they are all the same with exception of excipients an dyes.
Also if you are under 18, then you cannot get the Sudafed without an adult.
And of course, if the problem presists for more than 10 days, you need to go see a doctor because you may have a more serious issue, or you may require some Rx medications to best help treat your symptoms.
Q: how do I deal with sinus headaches?
Lately, I would wake up with sinus headaches and pressure around the eyes and cheeks in the morning. Then sometimes I’ll sneeze a lot lately and get a funny feeling in my throat and I’ll have nasal congestion. But usually, after getting rid of the sinus headaches, I’m fine. How do I deal with sinus headaches and keep them from coming in the morning when I wake up, other than medication?
A: All the above. benadril at night or claratin daytime.
I get them too feels like someone stuck an ice pick up my nose clear to the top of my head. the allergy meds help some. In the morning when you shower let the water as hot as you are comfortable run on your forded. Sometimes a hot wet washrag helps, the humidity helps. When you sleep that stuff can’t drip and collects.
Q: Home remedies to relieve sinus headaches?
I am on antibiotics and nasal spray, but i need something to ease the horrible pain when i get the headaches. I just got alieve cold n sinus-D but is there any home remedies? (that work!?!)….and i’m 15 so make sure its possible for me to do!
A: Celestial Seasonings “Sleepy Time” tea. It has chamomile in it, which is great for relaxing muscles. Also, blood thinners like aspirin, spicy foods and vitamin C will do the trick.
Q: Any help for sinus headaches which seem to be barometeric related?
Anti inflammatory meds seem to help, but my body gets used to meds so they stop working. When air pressure drops,so do I from reality.I used to have migraines,so I know these are not migraines
Spring, fall, last 2 weeks of the year & 1st 2 weeks of the year are the hardest times for me
Right before rain is here (storms are worst!)Bad times also when I’m dizzy, nauseated,& weak.Sometimes I collapse in weakness. At times my ear canals ring, feel pressure or even hurt.
Drs just give me antihistamines, which sometimes work on allergies, but never for sinuses. The only time I ever get sinus infection is when I have this 3 days. But these headaches almost always last 4-6 hours. No comfort,no relief
Airplane take off/landing make me real dizzy,&I feel sinus pressure start. It’s gone soon after landing
As a kid, in elevators,I would squat in the corner with my head in my hands.I’m adult now, still get a bit dizzy, but not bad.I have more body mass
Any ideas?
Correction, the headaches last 4-16 hours
A: oooooo dont get all technical with me
Q: Is drinking while having sinus headaches and pressure bad?
So im going to this party tonight, but im starting to have a sinus headache and sinus pains. They’re not terribly bad, but i took a 12hr sudafed this morning. Would it be bad for me to drink tonight? What are some foods that help sinus pressure and headaches go away? Any suggestions would be greatly apperciated
A: The only things that really helped me was when my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.I did this this morning and am going to do it again soon. Sinus infection is very painful and will really respond to this treatment,
you need
distilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don’t get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
best wishes
Q: What’s the best way to prevent waking up with sinus headaches in the mid of the night? Happen only after sleep
Lately I have been waking with sinus headaches, always behind the left eye. They only happen when I sleep. I’ll sit up for about a half hour and they eventually go away. I rarely get them, but lately I’ve had them for about a week straight. Is there any way to prevent them before going to bed?
A: go buy a humidifier. Walgreen’s ultrasonic one is the BEST! I use it in my bedroom myself. I used to get the same headaches, but they stopped when I got the humidifier. They’re only 30.00 so it’s worth the risk just to see if it helps you.
Q: Can changes in atmospheric pressure cause Sinus Headaches?
If one already has sinuses that are usually on the verge of creating sinus headaches, can changes in atmospheric pressure (such as that created by the movement of weather fronts) increase the pressure in one’s sinuses, thus causing sinus headaches?
A: Yes, I agree with the last answer. In fact, I live in one of those bad sinus areas too. Often what will help is to massage the sinuses, this will loosen mucus and relieve pressure.
Also, poor neck alignment can predispose someone for more sinus problems. These neck pillows can help neck alignment keeping the sinus pathways open as well as keep nerve flow to the sinuses at its best – http://www.arc4life.com/
To massage the sinuses simply rub in a circular motion or back and forth above the eyes, underneath the eyes, and across the forehead; mostly where you feel the headache.
Q: What is the best nonpresription medicine for sinus headaches?
I usually get really bad sinus headaches that also include stuffy nose but no cough or watery eyes. I have been taking guaifenex which I believe is the generic of pseudovent. Basically pure pseudophedrine. This has been very helpful but it is getting harder to find. Ive heard the government is trying to convince drug makers to stop making it because of the meth problem.
A: try this, it works for me.My husband uses this to keep from getting bronchitis, and I use to to cure sinus infections. Q: When I take allergy medicine I develop strip throat/sinus headaches?
I have post nasal drip, and I’am scheduled to have a septoplasty and a turbinate reduction in two weeks. But I’m curious to know why is it that when I take allergy medicine I develop strip throat and sinus headaches all the time? Allergy medicine really dries up my post nasal drip, but leaves me with a strip throat and sinus headaches on and off. I was wondering why this is?
Laura, you’re an idiot.
A: Try this instead.
My husband uses this to keep from getting bronchitis when he gets a sinus infection, and I use it to cure sinus infections. Q: What is the best thing to do about sinus headaches?
Every time I go to bed or even taking a short nap, I wake up with a terrible headache. I’ve realized it’s a sinus headache and goes away usually an hour after I get up and move around. What would help me or better yet, get rid of this problem?
Great answers, Thank you so much!!!
A: I have been suffering from sinus headaches for years, so I know what I’m talking about. How did you come to determine that these headaches are sinus-related?
First off, see a doctor. You can go to your general practitioner and get recommended to an ear, nose, and throat doctor or a sinusologist (or someone who is both). They will probably do a CT scan or MRI and try to determine if it really is sinus headaches. You may need to see a neurologist just to rule out anything else.
As far as medicines, I use Sudafed to control sinus headaches. Make sure you get Pseudoephedrine not Phenylephrine. That’s the one you have to buy from behind the counter at drugstores and show your ID for (at least in NY you do). It is not prescription, though. You could also try Mucinex, instead of Sudafed, if you wish. Nasal spray is also really important. Your ENT might prescribe for you a steroid nasal spray, such as Nasacort, along with an antihistamine, such as Astelin. Both need to be taken diligently following your doctor’s instructions.
For quick headache relief, try Excedrin. The combination of acetaminophen, caffeine, and aspirin is absolutely amazing when it comes to fighting headaches. If you don’t want the caffeine, try plain aspirin. Also, I’ve found that lying down with a heat pack on the area of my head that hurts helps to relieve my headache.
Remember, see a doctor before trying to self-medicate.
Best of luck!
