Q: Woke up with a stomach ache, diarrhea, headache, vomiting, and slight fever, why?
This happened yesterday. I woke up with a throbbing stomach ache and couldn’t keep any food down. Every 20 minutes I was in the bathroom due to diarrhea or vomiting. I took my temperature in the afternoon and was around averaging 99.8.

I felt perfect the night before when I went to bed.

These symptoms lasted all day until about 3am when I managed to get a couple hours of sleep. When I woke up around 7am today, my stomach ache was gone. I don’t feel nausea, the diarrhea is gone, but I do have a slight headache. I’m guessing the headache is from being dehydrated because I wasn’t able to keep water down in my stomach all day yesterday.

So my question is, what type of sickness did I have? Why? How can I prevent something like that from happening again?

A: This happened to me last year… it was horrible. After a couple of hours you feel so weak and every part of your body aches from all the dry heaving. My symptoms lasted for exactly 12 hours, yours sound like they lasted a bit longer though. The vomiting and diarrhea were ways for your body to get rid of whatever was in your system… you could have eaten something that had gone bad or something infected with salmonella. Have you eaten any romaine lettuce or bean sprouts lately? They have been recalled because of a salmonella outbreak. Always be careful of the foods you eat, but sometimes you can’t do anything about getting sick like that.

Q: My daughter is 12 and has started having headaches with vomiting.?
She started her period late last month so I thought that may be the problem. What happens is, she has a headache, vomits then the right side if her body and face gets numb. I read on Web MD that it may be something neurological but since it’s Saturday I thought I would see if I could get some feedback from you guys. Thanks in advance!

A: these are symptoms that may indicate a migraine headache. migraines can occur around a women’s cycle due to low blood sugar and edema.

if it were my daughter, i’d bring her to a neurologist as soon as possible to rule out anything of a more serious nature. there are medications to treat and prevent migraines, but i think paying careful attention to her diet may be a solution.

Q: Morning Nausea, Headache, Vomiting?
I am a 30 year old female and have been experiencing a troubling problem. Three weeks ago I woke up with a terrible headache, unable to move and just laying down in pain. I got up, went downstairs, and took some headache pills. About five minutes later I had the urge to vomit and went into the bathroom where I threw up until nothing more could come out. I felt better afterwards but had to take a nap.

This morning, the same thing happened. I woke up with the same headache but this time I forced myself to get up and go to work. I had not taken any pills. Within 15 minutes of being at work I ha to leave because I felt so ill. Feeling dizzy, I was worried about driving home. Nonetheless I did, and half way home I vomited all over myself as I was driving. I could feel it coming on but there was no place to pull over.

I don’t know why this is happening. I am not a ‘puker’ and in my entire life I have only thrown up when I had too much to drink back in my early 20’s. Never from illness or seeming randomness.

Does anyone know what this could be? I don’t have health insurance so seeing a doctor isn’t an option, so I’m trying to research what could be causing it. It’s so weird.

A: Awwwww… Ur pregnant!!! Congrats!!!

Or… It could be a carbon monoxide issue, or sleep apnea… Check for pregnancy first… Then look into the rest…

If you suspect carbon monoxide, once u feel this happen, go outside immediately, breathe deep once outside for a few minutes, if it doesn’t go away, check into the sleep apnea thing…

Q: suddenly got sick: excruciating headache, vomiting?
I got home from work about an hour and a half ago. I was fine – until I laid down on my bed and felt a headache coming. 20 min Iater it got worst, up to the point where I had to massage my temples. Not much later I got extremely nauseous and haven’t stopped throwing up since. My headache got to the point where it’s hard to deal with – closing my eyes makes it worst, and I keep throwing up the medicine I take.
I don’t have insurance, but should I go to the er? I’ve never had such a horrible headache, on a scale from 1-10 it’s a 9, and I can barely stand the headache. It’s absolutely excruciating right now.

I know I shouldn’t be on here, but it doesn’t get any worst than this right now, so I might as well look for some advice.

A: It sounds like a classic “Migraine” headache to me?
I had my first one at 20, and only get them once in a blue moon…especially if I’ve had a terribly stressful time.
Yep, excruciating pain, sickness (can last for hours)…strangely, often better for throwing up? I also get crazy things like numbness in my legs..(or that could be due to being huddled over the toilet :( ). Bright light hurts the eyes too…at the time.
Darken the room. Try a cold flannel across from temple to temple.
If you get worried further, then Insurance or not, go to a local surgery or Hospital. I’m pretty sure they do HAVE to see you, regardless.
I hope you are okay. x

Q: Child with headache, vomiting and stomache
My son is 4 years old, he had the sore throat, high fever more than a week ago. The fever subsided but he complained about the pain behind the two ears and the neck. Doctor said it was due to infection to the lumbar and gave another stronger antibiotics. He seems ok after that but start to complaining about heached and stomache these two days. the whole thing happened within 2 weeks. He vomitting few times tonight but no fever, except the same stomach pain and headache. Can anyone gives me some ideas what could cause this?
By the way, he play, eat and sleep well during day time, complain of headache, cough and nausea at night time only.

A: Hi Kenny,
Did the doc perform a strep test to rule out strep throat? The symptoms of strep will resolve without antibiotic treatment; however, standard protocol is to administer antibiotics to curtail the contagious stage, provide more rapid healing as well as protect against rare, yet associated, secondary infections of strep. When you mentioned that he has pain in his neck, do you mean that he cannot move it? See if he can move his chin to his chest — if he cannot, please make an appt with the doctor as soon as possible to rule out meningitis. Because he also has ear pain, it is possible that he has developed otitis media (an ear infection behind the eardrum), and it is up to your pediatrician as to whether or not he should be on a specific antibiotic therapy. The vomiting could be related to GI upset from the antibiotics he’s currently on, strep throat… or a seconday infection. In any case, I’d call the pediatrician, explain the symptoms and ask to have him seen today. Without seeing him and performing blood work or strep test, no one on line can give you a definitive diagnosis….only educated guesses. It’s probably a simple viral infection or reaction to the meds; however, you’ll have peace of mind after seeing the physician. I hope he feels better soon!

Q: Left Kidney Pain, headache, vomiting?
I’ve had this for a few months now. I went to the doctors and she put me on a course of antibiotics for a week which I completed 3 days ago. I haven’t drank any alcohol or taken any drugs whilst having this complaint. However, I am still experiencing these symptoms. I am also going the loo a lot. My urine has been sent off to the labs for cultures but I haven’t got the results yet. It has been 10 days since they were sent. Will the results be available of monday morning?
Also the type of headache is a burning stinnging pain more prominent with movement. I also have a feeling of something painful in my left upper abdomen. Any ideas on how to treat? Could I need an ultrasound? thanks

A:
hmm sounds like a kidney stone, im no doctor btw but i had pain, vomiting, peeing a lot. They took me in and gave me an ultrasound, did tests ect. mine wasnt a kidney stone but a blockage in my kidney. i only think it may be a stone as you have had the same complaint for a while now.

mabye speak to your doctor about the possibility of it being this?

Q: what kind of disease a little boy 3 years old, with headache, vomiting with 39.7C temperature, wbc 21.000 mm3?

A: The child may have a bacterial infection as suggested by the fever and high wbc which are fairly reliable indicators. However, without further history and physical exam a diagnosis can’t be made. And there are other disease states that may cause high fever and white count. An online diagnoses shouldn’t be made in the first place. Since you know the child’s WBC I’m assuming he/she has seen a physician.

Despite having 19 grandchildren (and that’s an honor and I applaud her), the above answerer has no way of knowing what’s wrong with your child, wbc’s that high suggest something other than a virus. Grandmothers are nice, but follow your Physicians orders.

Q: Would you like it if a company came out with a alcohol that didn’t give you headaches, vomiting etc?
It would be a new type of liqour that didnt give you negative side effects, but it still would give you a safe buzz.

A: yeah and one that didn’t make you an alcoholic, bum that lives in the street

Q: Fever with back pain, headache, and vomiting?
I woke up at 4 AM with a splitting headache, nausea, a fever of 101.6, rapid breathing and heart rate, and pretty major pain in my lower back. Also, I have a hard time keeping fluids down. My fever is going down a little bit, but I am still experiencing the other symptoms. Does anybody have an idea as to what this could be?

A: It could be just a stomach flu or it could be something bigger like a kidney infection or something. You should go to the urgent care or the ER especially if the fever hasn’t broken.

Q: Vomiting, headache, stomach ache…?
I’m 12 years old, & I get sick like, once a week. With both headache & stomch ache. Sometimes, even vomiting. I’m alittle scared because it happens so often. Is this Deadly, & what can i do to stop it?

A: All i can say is to go to the doctor.

Have you gotten your periods yet?

Q: Allergy, vomiting, headache and low weight in a 5 year old. Please help.?
My grandson is 5, he was diagnosed with an egg allergy many years ago, his face, lips and eyes swell but after some medication he improves.
Over the past few months his health seems to have deteriorated, He is having the above symptoms but he gets a headache and pain in his face preceding the swelling, and the symptoms come on even when he has not been in contact with egg. He also has bouts of vomiting when he seems otherwise well. He is underweight, almost off the lowest scale.
He is otherwise a happy, active little boy. Your views would be appreciated. We are waiting for an appointment with his paediatrician.

A: I worked as a nurse for a number of years for an ENT doctor. It sounds like your little guy may have developed respiratory allergies to go with his egg allergy. The headache and pain in his face sound like sinus involvement to me. That’s not at all unusual.

When the little ones have allergies their sinuses drain at about 3 times the normal amount. So their little tummies get full of … well, snot. Not too appealing, but it’s what happens. In addition to the vomiting these kids usually lose weight because they have no appetite. Their stomachs are full!

When you get in to see his doctor be sure to ask him about an antihistamine. Unless he’s running a fever he probably doesn’t need an antibiotic. I hope he gets feeling better soon!

Q: Help! 37 weeks pregnant..Vomiting, headache!?
I’m exactly 37 weeks pregnant today. Woke up in the middle of the night with excruciating headache and I keep throwing up…took out my contacts (sometimes helps headache) and I feel horrrible still. I had some spotty blurred vision earlier as well. Looked up symptoms and saw preeclampsia which scares me. Anyone have similar experience or does this sound like preeclampsia! So scared :(
Visi

A: Call your doctor as soon as possible and get checked out, the blurred vision does sound like preeclampsia which needs to be taken care of as soon as possible, it is not good for you and the baby, and yes, it can bring on the headaches also. Call your doctor and make an appointment to be seen immediately, so he can make you and baby feel better and get better as soon as possible♥

Q: Severe headache with vomiting
Last night around 3 am my boyfriend woke up with a headache so severe that he was almost in tears. He was also in a cold sweat like a fever, but wasn’t warm to the touch. He took a tylenol and not long after started vomiting violently. He was ok this morning and went to work as usual. He said he’s never had a headache that bad before. It sounds to me like a migraine, but I’m not sure. He does stunt biking and jostles his body around quite a bit, but he always wears a helmet and I’m pretty sure he hasn’t hit his head recently. Should I make him go to the doctor? Or wait until another headache happens? He’s one of those people who HATES going to the doctor, very stubborn that way. I just feel very worried.

A: thats a good sign of a migraine yes. I started to get them when I was about 18 or so, but they went away at like age 25. If it happens again soon Id go to a Dr.

Q: flu?? Massive headache, neasia/vomiting, chills, stiff neck?
I have no clue what this is. My boss had the flu. A teacher of mine had it. I dont think im running a fever. My head has hurt since thursday. Nothing works. I cant stand more than 5 min with out vomiting. my neck is stiff…to where if i look down my head throbs.

A: It may only be the flu, but it may be something serious and even life-threatening like becterial meningitis. In saying this, i urge you to go to the ER – better safe than sorry.

Influenza (flu) Supmtoms:
Initially, the flu may seem like a common cold with a runny nose, sneezing and sore throat. But colds usually develop slowly, whereas the flu tends to come on suddenly. And although a cold can be a nuisance, you usually feel much worse with the flu.

Common signs and symptoms of the flu include:

Fever over 101 F in adults, and often as high as 103 to 105 F in children
Chills and sweats
Headache
Dry cough
Muscular aches and pains, especially in your back, arms and legs
Fatigue and weakness
Nasal congestion
Loss of appetite
Diarrhea and vomiting in children

Meningitis Symptoms:
It’s easy to mistake the early signs and symptoms of meningitis for the flu. They may develop over a period of one or two days and typically include:

A high fever
Severe headache
Vomiting or nausea with headache
Confusion, or difficulty concentrating — in the very young, this may appear as inability to maintain eye contact
Seizures
Sleepiness or difficulty waking up
Stiff neck
Sensitivity to light
Lack of interest in drinking and eating
Skin rash in some cases, such as in viral or meningococcal meningitis
Earlier signs and symptoms that may suggest a serious infection, although not necessarily meningitis, include leg pain, ice-cold hands and feet, and abnormally pale skin tone.

Complications
The complications of meningitis can be severe. The longer you or your child has the disease without treatment, the greater the risk of seizures and of permanent neurological damage, including hearing loss, blindness, loss of speech, learning disabilities, behavior problems and brain damage, even paralysis.

Non-neurological complications may include kidney failure and adrenal gland failure. Your adrenal glands produce a number of important hormones including cortisol, which helps your body deal with stress.

Bacterial infections of your central nervous system progress quickly. Within a matter of days, the disease can lead to shock and death.

**The cause of stiff neck and headache are linked, and are the most frequent symptom(s) of meningitis because it is an inflammation of the membranes (meninges) and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding your brain and spinal cord, usually due to the spread of an infection. When they become inflamed, there is increased pressure on your neck around your spinal cord and increased intracranial pressure (pressure in and around your brain).

Hope this helps and get well soon..Gekko.
