Q: Can daily spotting and pregnancy symptoms be caused by birth control?
My baby girl is 13 months. When she was 11 months, I started my first postpartum period (really horrible). I had another period on my own five weeks later (lighter than usual), but I took a pregnancy test on day 2 before starting the pill because we had been unprotected that month. I have been on the pill for two cycles now and there have only been eight days I have not spotted or bled (five the first cycle, three the second). Light period in between too. My doctor made me try the second cycle and I have already called them back to consult (waiting for a call back).
My question is: I know the pill can cause the spotting if the hormone levels aren’t right (same pill as pre-pregnancy, but obviously my body changed). Can it also cause pregnancy symptoms? I have been moody, exhausted (as in, falling asleep watching tv/video games with hubby at 8:00 pm when bedtime is usually 10:00-11:00 and not being fully awake no matter how much I sleep), peeing during the night, having food aversions sometimes and eating a ton other times, gained 5 lbs in one month and been having headaches and migraines pretty regularly. All of these things happened during my first trimester last time, but I thought with all the spotting and still getting a light-medium flow period, I shouldn’t be. I’m hoping the pill can cause all these symptoms as it pisses my husband off a little when I waste a test just to assuage my fears. Can this all be related to hormone problems from the pill?
A: This also happened to me when I was on the pill. I thought for sure I was pregnant. I was peeing more frequently, my boobs were bigger, I wasn’t very hungry, I was moody etc. I had missed taking the pill one day, and what with having all those symptoms I just knew I was pregnant. But I wasn’t. Spotting is very common when you’re on the pill, and those other symptoms can happen too. Obviously, it’s still possible to get pregnant on the pill, so you’ll just have to wait and see.
Hope this helped!
Q: What to do with my vision?
I have incredible eyesight in my right eye to the point where i can make out car number plates from a long way away, in fact I’ve given up playing video games just to preserve it however im finding it more difficult now to stop my left eye doubling up my vision, its causing me some severe migraines but i do a lot of studio and editing work so it could just be the lighting, im considering getting my eyes looked at but i dont want to compromise my overall vision by getting laser eye surgery, my right eye’s vision has helped me become very good at studio work but i fear i may loose my vision all together, surely its not worth it?
A: Woah, dude. Listen, can you make sure to put PERIODS in your writing? If you look at your paragraph, it is practically one long sentence.
Get your eyes checked. My friend has perfect 20/20 vision in one eye while the other eye is nearsighted. So she wears glasses, but one lense is just normal glass without perscription.
This might be the case for you.
Q: Is this a migraine??
i was playing video games, and then i got really dizzy out of no where and then it felt like i couldnt feel my head and it also felt like my brain was trying to explode! what is this?
i only played for 1 hr.
its been going on for like almost 1 hr.
i took some ibuprofen 2 minutes ago
A: I don’t think that was a migraine. Perhaps you had been playing video games too long, and maybe you almost passed out. What you explained is sometimes the symptoms of fainting. But you should definitely talk to your doctor, it could be something else (not trying to scare you or anything.).
Q: I feel extremely bored around people, yet I need to work on my conversational skills?
Or maybe dont care for the people I hang out with hobbies like video gaming that is actually pretty boring. and makes me even more lethargic and restless heres some more things about myself I go into a conversation with someone and a few minutes later if I can’t speak my thoughts about the subject matter I would either get a migraine or feel very anxious. sometimes both. and when i’m around certain rambling-type people it just heightens my mood.
A: Take all the things you consider fun and interesting into use. Find a club or a hobby that you are willing to spend time in. When you become involved you will be surrounded by people with the same interests as you and you will probably have a better experience with friends and being around people who aren’t annoying.
If you have low social skills, often times people in groups/clubs that have common interests will come up to you to chat, but of course there has to be some effort on your part (even just a little bit!). It will probably be a great way to meet new and exciting people.
Q: 5 day long migraine + frustration when encountering work?
I am 15; I am male; I don’t take any medications; I have low serotonin (perfectionist, OCD, no empathy, anger problems) but I hate having normal levels and I know cause of ritalin, cacao, coffee, etc. I only stay alive for my strangely similar friend, because I’m so gifted, and if I killed myself, I would end up the worst; also, this society is a mess.
My diet is developing and I miss childhood food. But I must stay alive as long as I can. My knowledge is developing and I miss being stupid; video games were actually fun when I was a stupid kid. But I must become as smart as I can.
Alright so I drink some cocoa and I feel relaxed as if I took 10 ritalins, minus the stimulant part. That’s the serotonin in the cocoa. So 2 days later I get a migraine. At the thought of work I feel very uncomfortable. Headaches come and go for 5 days so far.
I can’t take it anymore, I want to work! Is my body trying to make me discover something by going on strike? What do I do?
A: Try helping a cause or other people. Make yourself not think about you. Skip those thoughts.Focus on someone or something else’s troubles. Force yourself to keep your mind off you. Drag your mind away from you. Knowing you’ll make it.
Q: HELP?!! Am I having a stroke?
I have had tingling in my chin for about a day now, happens about once every couple of hours, headache that doesn’t hurt that bad, and sore eyes, able to play video games, walk, read , and watch T.V without severe pain. I just want to know if this is a stroke, or a migraine or something else.
** headache started next day chin tingling still comes and goes once in a while and i am 13.
***For the record i do have a broken collarbone
A: I did answer this earlier but you didn’t mention the broken collarbone, remember I asked if you’d had a neck injury? You are probably dealing with some pinched nerves in the neck area. Again let your Dr. know about any new or worsening symptoms.

A: The good news is, it doesn’t sound like a stroke. I hope you’ve told your parents (at least some adult). Have you had any kind of injury or twisted your neck? It could be a pinched nerve. It could also be a dental issue, you may be clenching your teeth (some people do this in their sleep and aren’t aware of it) this can cause all kinds of problems and is easily helped with a night mouth guard.
Please talk to an adult, you should be checked by your family Dr. or dentist.
Q: Help Me, Tourette Syndrome…?
Hello everyone. I dunno how to say this exactly so it may be jumbled a little. I have Tourette Syndrome. I have had it as far back as i can remember. It used to be mild, but after i turned 16 it got worse and after 20 it has never been worse. I have well over 100 different individual unique tics that i have to suppress. I have about 20 regular tics id like to call them, they frequent me more. (eye bliking, twitching, clearing throat, biting lip/mouth, etc. etc.) Some one my tics are bad and are self mutilating. Like if i see a hot burner element i am compelled to touch it. I do believe that i have OCD and ADHD as well. My tourettes interferes with my life drastically. I have never read a book in my entire life because i cant stay focused on stationary words long enough to read a page. I learned to read playing video games as when playing, my mind wanders enough to keep me focused. Video games and movies help reduce my tourette syndrom a bit, but sometimes its so bad i cant do anything. This all frustrates me and i dont know what to do anymore, i have been fired from a job because of tourette syndrome. I have tried every medically prescribed drug and nothing works even mildly. I am losing hope and it feels as if it is only getting worse. I am close to 22 and i cant take this anymore. It is so hard to find work right now and waking up with Tourettes is something i wouldnt wish upon my worst of enemies. I would say i am living in hell. I need someone to help me, tell me what i can do to calm this? please. Im physically harming myself involuntarily because of tourettes. I have bent my right index finger in a way so often than i have permanently damaged it and now it mimics something like arthritis. I make loud noises and my throat is feeling like there is something in it growing and i cant clear it. I twitch my head so violently sometimes i generate massive migraine headaches. I have bitten the insides of my mouth so many times in places i have scar tissue that tears open easily. I cant stand this self mutilation i go through everyday. To my family and friends all they know is i have Tourette Syndrome really bad but they know nothing of the self harming tics. I cant live with this. Please someone help me.
Anybody? Nobody out there has anything to say?
A: listen hun, i know it must be terrible, and i wish i could just take it all away. but, as you know i cannot. my son age 8 has ts. my hope is that he does not get it very badly, but even if he does i know there is medical surgeries that may help maybe you should look into it . i know it sounds scary but maybe it would be better than living the way that you are living. you know, you know the surgery that they put an eletrode into your brain and you can control it with a remote i have heard that works remarkably well. i wish you the best and i really hope that you can find something because everyonedeserves a chance at happiness!! bye
Q: I think i am ‘Feeling’ others emotions. Am i going crazy?
I told my best friend and he really confused me so maby you guys wont.
Yesterday i woke up and i had a really bad migraine and it felt like my ears were…..humming?
I had a doctors appointment scheduled and all of the tests came back fine. my friend came over later and as we were playing video games (MK vs DC Universe) i told him to calm down it was just a game. he looked at me funny and asked what i was talking about and i told him to stop getting so angry. He looked at me funny and suggested we do something else.
I thought about it later on and i realized he was laughing the whole time but i could just ‘Feel’ he was angry.
I decided to experiment and tried with several people and i think i am feeling the emotions of others as long as im within six feet of them. to test this theory i went to the mall and just stood very near a large crowd. It felt like i was spinning and i could hear a ‘rush’ in my head to the point of almost passing out.
Is this a mental condition? If so which one and what are treatment options?
A: It’s called empathy.
It’s a talent, not a superpower. Works especially well with people you know, but sometimes even with strangers.
Q: question about topamax?
i started topamax up and i am taking 100 mg a day. I was told that once you stop and re-start you might not lose weight on it again. I am wondering why this is?
How come you will have every single other known side effect again and again and again but not the one single beneficial side effect?
I just started it saturday, for migraines. I started it back in April 09, and lost weight on it and it was GREAT. All headaches stopped, my mood evened out, this was a miracle drug for me! This was the generic brand, topapiramate. Almost immediately, my appetite was gone. I had one night of a weird experience where I didnt know where I was but then I was FINE.
Had to stop it due to losing my insurance/ lay off.
Finally got coverage back when I got a job again. Got back on topamax. But this time, i only get the brand name for some reason. Not generic.
Since I’ve been on it starting Saturday, it has been a hellish experience. Headaches, nausea, one minute I have an appetite and am very hungry the next I am disgusted at the thought of food almost like a binge type thing, feeling of crawling in my skin, RACING thoughts and I mean racing to the point its terrifying. I woke up at 1am the other night and I had random racing thoughts to the point the only way I could make it stop was to get up, go into another room, turn the light on and start counting to clear my head.
The list goes on…
trouble concentrating..
driving I feel like I am playing a video game my depth perception is off… I can describe it kind of as a feeling of being buzzed sometimes…odd…
random bouts of nausea….
random bouts of tiredness then energy…
generally feeling like I belong in a mental institution, like I feel like I could just say random things to people without caring…. loss of some inhibition. Not to an extreme, such as I wouldnt run around naked or anything… but I feel less likely to hold back on some things like verbally speaking out.
HELP!
A: So did you call your md about your side effects – this should be reported – This is not normal – it sounds like the cure is worse than the disease – when that happen your Md should prescribe something else for you
Q: Anyone use topamax……….?

starfish, im already smaller than a size 6 but thanks. ; )
A: You might try this in a health-related section. Here, you’re likely to get really goofy answers! LOL
The goofy answers are entertaining, but I think you are looking for a serious one and M&D just isn’t the place–sorry!
BTW: This med is also used to treat seizure activity. Because it’s a drug used to treat neuro issues and you are having problems on it, get your doc to prescribe something else. There are other meds for migraines that may help you without all the complicating side effects.
Q: Are my symptoms severe? (brain issues)?
It started a couple months back, I forgot when. I probably ate something bad. At first, my right side of the brain started to ache, then i guess after a couple of weeks later, my left side started to ache also. Now the top left of the brain is aching. I noticed that my judgment on things has gotten slower than usual. I guess you can say i got “dumber”.
I do play video games. I did a lot back then, right now I play a little less, and these things just came up. I didn’t think it was a big deal, just thought it was a headache. I guess it’s a really long migraine.
Now i want to know if this is serious or something common in most people. Just hope it’s the second one.
I’m 15 years old.
A: Please tell your parents, and go see a doctor.
Q: Am I depressed or not?… And other things…?
For the past two weeks I haven’t been going to school. It started with me having a migraine so I asked my mom if I could stay home and she said yes. The next day I said the same thing… And every other day since then I pretty much refused to go to school. I’ve always done this, refusing to go to school, I don’t know why I do it but I hate myself for it. About 4 a days ago my mother thought I might be depressed.. I don’t know if I am or not. (I’d like to add that my mother, father, sister and brother are medicated for depression.) For the past few days I’ve just felt sad. When I’m not at school for longer than two days I get really nervous and I stay home the next day because I’m nervous. I think I’m nervous because I’m staying home without a good reason. My highschool(I’m in the 9th grade) made me sign a contract saying a bunch of stuff about me missing school to much near the beginning of the year. When I’m at school I feel so much better but I just can’t seem to get to school and my parents… Well they’ve given up on trying to get me to school. Just one last thing, when I stay home all I do is play video games while feeling nervous and depressed/sad… damnit… One last thing, my mom said she’d get me to the doctor on Wednesday.
A: It’s not really a depression issue, but a motivational one. Get a piece of paper, divide it in half. On the left side, write down without censoring, all the things that hold you back from succeeding in life the way you want. Just let it all out, no matter how silly, weird or crazy it might seem.
Then on the right hand side, put down all the good things in life. Not only that you actually HAVE a family that cares for you, a good school to attend, friends there, etc. but your aspirations, dreams, hopes, ideas, goals, etc. Then understand that to accomplish ANYTHING, YOU have to get out there to make it happen.
You don’t have to have all your ducks lined up in a row, but once you START, the Universe can then begin to support you… just as it has always done, and always will.
Q: Boyfriend out of work for a year, should I leave?
I love my boyfriend and we have a good relationship besides the fact that he is becoming more and more lazy every day. He was laid off over a year ago at his job in construction and has been collecting unemployment ever since. At first he was working side jobs and making a little extra money, but now he’s not even doing that. He said he didn’t want to work because he needs to concentrate on school. He finally signed up for two classes this semester (he hasn’t been to school for about 3 years) and claims that he can’t even get a part time job because he can’t concentrate on classes and work at the same time (note: he has tons of restaurant experience). He spends his money frivolously and doesn’t keep me updated on his financial situation, so when he wants to eat or buy something he invites me to go and when it’s time to pay I am the one that ends up paying for his lunch/dinner/snack, if he can’t pay all of his half of the bills I have to cover them. He only studies and does school work the days of his two classes and the rest of the time he watches TV or plays video games. He won’t do household chores and the only chore I ask him to do are the dishes. When he DOES do the dishes he waits until the sink is overflowing and even then only washes half of them. We never go out, not even on a lunch date, and if I ask to go somewhere with him to hang out besides watching television he says we’re too broke.
I work five days a week, sometimes I pick up extra shifts. I have twice as many bills to pay as him and sometimes I have to cover parts of his bills. I have depleted my savings account to zero and only had enough for my rent and car payment this month (oh yeah, and more than half of the water bill he’s supposed to be in charge of); none for the cable, my health insurance, my phone, my car insurance, etc.I don’t know what I’m going to do about those.
I have been going to the doctor for migraine attacks and daily, chronic headaches. I pass out and have really scary “attacks” that stress me out beyond belief. I’m going through all kinds of health tests and discovering my body’s own weaknesses. I’m honestly having the worst time trying to deal with all of this on my own and also act like a mother to him.
I don’t know what to do! I love him, we never fight, and he tolerates my sickness. The only thing that is making me unhappy is him not working and not being financially stable. I don’t even care if it’s not a well paying job, I just want him working so I know he will be fine if I all of a sudden can’t work. I can’t sit around and watch television all day, every day, spending my days off wasting away in front of the tube. When I try to tell him this he just blows me off. Please someone give me advice! :’(
A: You may love him, but you should either 1) move back in with your family or 2) try to find another place that is more affordable so that you can have a little extra money in your pocket after paying all your bills. Oh yeah…and did I fail to mention that when you leave DO NOT take him with you. Let him fend for himself. He is not your child, therefore you should not be held responsible for taking care of him. He is only doing this to you, because you haven’t given him an ultimatum. Tell him get a job or it’s over and he will be homeless. Remember: Men will only do what you allow them to do.
Q: Could this be low blood sugar, or thyroid problems?
Ok, this is a sorta long story but I just want to get all the symptoms out there. I am a 20 year old healthy, happy, confident male suffering from headaches, panic attacks, and other strange symptoms. I have always been very physically fit, happy, confident and hardworking guy that came from a great household. It just doesn’t make sense that I am having anxiety problems. About 3 months ago, I developed a very severe tension headache I believe was caused by TV, studying, too much video games, and stress. It lasted for almost a month and was so debilitating I was throwing up and was not able to function in my daily activities…..like college! It was terrible
I went home and after a week of being home the headaches went away, for about 3 days I was finally waking up and going to bed without a headache. Well my dumbass went to a party and got 2 hours of sleep and drank a fair share. I woke up the next day with a strange balloony pressure in my temples that didn’t hurt, not like a headache, i was worried i brought the headaches back. It was like that all day till i went to bed. When I started to fall asleep, BAM, panic attacks like crazy, all night long no sleep. Hallucinations, visual color patterns and flashes, intense sudden tinnitus, tingling in hands feet, rapid heartbeat. The best way I could describe it is the sound and feeling of a lighter being lit in my head. It happened pretty much every time I was falling asleep. Happened about 10 times over the next month. I thought it was migraine auras haha. after 2 days of this went to the doc and she said it was anxiety and put me on meds without thinking twice, muscle relaxers and anti depressents,i have not taken them and wont. The main thing that happens is a sudden intense ringing in the ears and everything seems to go white and spotty, and adrenaline surges throughout my body, but goes away in like 10 seconds. Last time it happened i was fishing and laughing about a sex joke with my buddies?!?!
After about month now, the panic attacks are gone pretty much, but i wake up every morning with pressure in my temples and am foggy headed. It gets worse if i go back to sleep in the morning. If it eat sugar or lots of carbs, it educes a panic attack within a few hours. I have a very hard time concentrating on anything and am having memory loss. Every once in a while i wake up with my bed sheets totally soaked in sweat. My lips tingle sometimes when falling asleep, and when that happens i usually see some small light shows under my eyes. It’s just strange because I am happy, confident, and some days i have 0 symptoms, but them out of the blue they come back the next day. My eyes are very dry in the morning and every once in a while become very fatigued all the sudden. When i get a hot shower, it seems to bring the pressure in my temples back for awhile. Every once in awhile out of the blue i get sharp, explosive electric like pains that shoot through my head, but go away quickly.
If i get stressed, my temples feel like there is a worm crawling around in them, and they fill up with fluid. and my ears are very sensitive to loud noises. But sometimes its not even stress that causes it. It will happen out of the blue. (they never were)
I have been working out pretty hard the past 4 days, and eating very healthy and its alitle better, but everything is definatly still there. Im just started to get scared that this stuff isnt going away. I dont want to go the docters and have them just quickly jump on the fact that its only anxiety, anxiety just doesnt fit me.
thanks alot for your time.
Just to be more specific, i dont have actual headaches anymore, just that pressury feeling and sometimes a few quick shooting pains, I am pretty sure that it was a serious tension headache i had and not a migraine, but i could be wrong. One other thing i forgot to mention is sometimes out of the blue i will be these strange tingly feelings that wave over my scalp, almost making it feel like my hair is standing up, usually goes away in about 10-30 seconds.
