Q: What types of foods prevent a migraine headache?
I suffer from migraine headaches. I usually get a really bad one right before I get my period. I remember reading somewhere that you can eat certain food and avoid others to help in the drop of hormones. I have high blood pressure so I can’t take birth control pills to help this.
A: theres no food that an prevent one from coming on but u can stop taking certain foods. ie, cheese, Coffee, eggs, chocolate, wat u should do in keep a diet dairy or trigger dairy. on it what triggered ur migraine that day was it light sound or food. also comment on wat u ate that day and also the day before. after a couple of months u will see a correlation cut that food out. but do not cut any food groups out of ur diet unless u ae completely sure.
Q: What is the curability percentage of Migraine in a given a period of 3 months?
Now a days every one complaints about sufferings of headaches and migraine. Can it be cured permanently and if so what is the time taken for a complete cure.
A: Migraine is definitely curable if the root cause of the disease is found out. By taking well selected homeopathic remedy the frequency of attacks will get less towards a gradual cure. No specific time can be set to cure the disease. If the medicines are taken for a specific time, the results will be promising. Identifying the root cause of the disease is the major step towards the cure of the disease. The physical condition as well the mental makeup of the patient has to be carefully analysed before the commencement of the treatment.
Q: What is a good way to get rid of a migraine?
I have a horrible migraine. Is there any tricks or home remedies that help relieve a migraine? They are so painful and I will do anything.
Thanks <3
A: Taking a dose of motrin (600 mg – 800 mg), drinking a full glass of water and lying quietly with your eyes closed or going to sleep in a quiet, darkened room for at least an hour. If you have migraines frequently, you should have some prescription medications to treat these and you need to get them from your family doctor. You can also go to WebMd.com and type in migraine and read other suggestions on treating this.
Q: How to can you get rid of migraine headaches?
I have used excedrin migraine before and it works pretty good but is there anything else i can try?
A: See your MD about it, even if you need to go to the ER. They will prescribe you something, and maybe have you meet with a neurologist. Exedrine won’t do anything for it. My wife has BAD migraines. She will actually vomit and pass out! Hers get really bad. She goes into the hospital and the MD pretty often. She is on a drug for migraines called Maxalt. You can ask your MD about that, or ask about Topomax or Imitrex. She does NOT use them anymore because they made her feel bad and she is now taking the Maxalt. But your own MD can find a medicine that your body can handle… And you might need an anti-nausea medicine like Reglan if you get sick from the migraines. If one drug makes you sick, your MD can find one that might help better. My wife also uses that. She lays down with an ice pack after she takes her meds…Some people don’t find anything that really works. Certain foods can trigger it like nuts, peanut butter, pork, spicy food like pepperoni… Also, hormonal things including a menstrual cycle can trigger migraines. I don’t recommend scented things or aromatherapy because migraines can worsen or be triggered by scented things or strong-smelling things. Cleaning supplies, chemicals, perfumes, bleaches… They can be bad for a migraine, and so is bright lights, t.v. screens, computer screens, noises… Migraines can be affected by what is affecting the senses. A dark, quiet room is best to lay down in. Please see your doctor and good luck.
Q: I have migraine and fever now. Is it harmful to take the 2nd pill after 2 hours?
I took an analgesic and antipyretic pill for my migraine 2 hours before and at the moment I have fever also. Is it harmful to take the same pill now?
I don’t have a pharmacist number to call
It’s Parol, 500 mg.
A: The best way to get a professional answer is to call your pharmacist. Your doctor may be too busy and this is not a professional forum. Personally, I would not worry about one or two pills. But, I have severe pain and take narcotic medications. The amounts I take might kill you.
Q: What is the best way to get rid of a severe migraine?
I have severe migraines everyday. I wake up it’s there, I go to sleep it’s still there. For the past 6 years I have lived with a migraine that never goes away. I’ve tried all of the major OTCs and prescription medications for headaches and nothing ever works. If there is some odd, non-medication treatment (besides accupuncture which failed to work for me) that you’ve tried and it worked for you please let me know.
I’ve also been to many doctors because of this, I’ve spent time at MHNI (Michigan Head pain and Neurological Institute) which specializes in headaches, and they can’t even tell me what’s wrong.
A: I have tried everything and had to go to the doctor for a prescription. I take Maxalt for my migraines.
Sometimes a cold cloth over my head and a dark ROM will help.
Write down what you have eaten or drank and what you have been doing in a journal to help narrow down what could possible be a trigger for your migraines.
My triggers are caffeine, certain perfumes and colognes and extreme stress.
Q: What are some common migraine medicines?
I believe my migraines are weather related. I get a nasty one every time a storm rolls in. I’ve tried sinus medicines, excedrin migraine, advil with coffee, a humidifier, nothing works. My head hurts so bad and I get so nauseaus I throw up. I was wondering if prescription migraine meds have any effect on weather related migraines, and what side effects they have? Can someone on birth control take them? Thanks.
A: If you are looking for a prescription medication with out side effects well, there are side effects to everything.
If your very susceptible to Migraines it may be wise to go on a preventive daily medicine. It sucks to have to take something daily but it is worth it to not have a banger of a migraine in the long run or not have them frequently. I started taking Topomax about 1year ago and at first really didn’t care for it, but now realize life is much better on it than without it.
I have a hard time taking onset medication because they make me feel really sick, high pulse, burning sensation. Those that are offered like Relpax, Maxalt, Zomig, Imitrex the list is forever long. They may also work for you though, they have to be taken at the first onset of your migrane.
Speak with your GP and see if he/she will refer you to a neurologist who specializes in migranes, that is where I seen the best luck.
Q: What is it like to have a status migraine episode?
I need to know what it’s really like to go through a status migraine episode. I’ve read about medical definitions and medical descriptions, but it’s not the same as personal experiences. Thanks everyone.
A: Status Migrainosus is simply having a migraine that won’t go away. So if you have migraines and they don’t go away for more than 3 days and they are severe and debilitating, then that would be status migrainosus. Those types of headaches should not be treated with narcotics and is usually treated by a neurologist. IV DHE is the best medication to stop an attack but usually requires inpatient admission and treatment may last for 3 days.
I don’t know if you have migraines, but they will have pounding or throbbing pain behind or around the eyes or just on the side of your head, sensitivity to light and sounds, nausea, vomiting, and be worse with movement to the point you can’t go about doing your daily activities.
Q: Can anyone tell me about any migraine pills they have used?
I get migraines about 3 to 4 times a month and they get really bad. I am currently using Imitrex, but I don’t like the side effects. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Possibly even migraine avoiding tips?
A: Find a good chiropractor and have him/her check you out. You could have any number of problems that contribute to your problem including a pinched nerve or stress. I had migraines for many years and took all kinds if pain medicine. There are many side effects of prescription drugs that may or may not surface for years. You could be damaging internal organs with the stuff including your stomach, kidneys and liver. Give the chiropractor a chance, they know alot about migraines and would be happy to help you.
Q: What are good ways to relieve migraine headaches?
I am 16 and have been getting various types of migraines since i was 3 or 4…i have heard of certain pressure points, and different techniques that could help relax you when you have a migraine.
A: Why not see your doc for some preventative medication. There are many meds that are used to help prevent migraines. It makes more sense to find out what is causing them and prevent them if you can and if you can’t then try preventative medicine so you get less of them.
Q: How to get rid of a migraine headache?
I cried all night long and I’ve been suffering all day long from the worst migraine ever! I took a Motrin and an Excedrin Migraine pill and I’ve been laying in my dark quiet room all day. And nothing is helping! What can I do to make it go away?
A: If you want to stop a migraine headache with medicine, you have to take it as soon as it begins, at the first symptoms. when it is in full swing, you can’t do much but rest in a dark quiet room.
there are a few things though, to make it bearable. You can give them a try:
1. take a 100 mg. capsule of 5-HTP(Tryptophan). You can take it again after about 2 hours.
2. You can put a hot compress( or hot water bottle. Get it from the pharmacy.) or an ice pack( Fill a ziplock bag with ice cubes, cover it with a hand towel, keep this where the head hurts.) whatever feels better. Everybody is different, some feel better with heat, others like cold.
Press the area between your thumb and first finger, with the thumb and first finger of the other hand. press it for a few seconds, then release it, then keep doing this until you feel better.
Gently, bite on your tongue, for a few seconds, release, repeat for some time.
Take 300 to 400 mg. of magnesium(preferably magnesium citrate.
Hope this helps
Q: What caused me to wake up with a migraine?
I took a nap today and I got woke up by throbbing pain from a migraine. I do suffer from migraines but this was like the mother of all migraines. I dont have any sleeping disorders to cause them either. I looked up a few things that might have caused it but none of them described me. Any suggestions?
A: i have had migraines for years, but only 2 or 3 of them were so bad that they were to the point if i moved even an inch, i would throw up from being so nauseous. What usually trigger them for me is not eating/drinking enough, hot weather, or i just get them every 4 months about. No medications work for me, but there is one cure. If you can fall asleep, you will wake up and it will be gone.
Another way to get rid of it, (as weird as this will sound) is the smell of a skunk. Once time i was driving home with one, smelt a very strong skunk smell, and it was gone. I know how weird that sounds.
Q: How much Excedrin Migraine does it take to severely damage your stomach?
I’ve heard lots of stories about Excedrin Migraine killing your stomach and giving you ulcers. Does anyone know how much it takes to actually do any of these things?
I just want to know how much i would have to take and how often to damage my stomach
A: That would be a difficult question to answer. Everybody’s body is different. Some people can take many pills with no effect, while others take one, and have trouble.
Taking meds like excedrin usually takes years before it can damage your body. But it is still not recommended.
If the recommended dosage is not working for you, you should see a neurologist that specializes in migraines. There are many medications out there now for migraines.
Check out this website: mymigraineconnection.com. It is very informative and maybe you can find an alternative.
I wish you well.
Q: How to know am having a normal Headache or Migraine? What is the different? How to cure it?
I always have problem in knowing whether I have a Migraine or just an ordinary Headache. Obviously, I always have a bad headache that can last for about 2 to 5 days. Ordinary medicine such as Paracetamol (500mg x 2) is not really effective for me. It makes me taking another strong medicine such as Ponstan (500mg) to reduce my headache. However, the painkiller could not last long, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I just think that my headache become worst in some way that sometimes Ponstan no more effective for me and force me to take another medicine such as Sonap (275mg) which is usually used for Migraine. It is mean that am having a Migraine or we have some level of Headaches?
A: Migraines are usually worse than normal headaches, and include other symptoms than an aching head. Usually sensitivity to light and sound are a good indicator that you’re having a migraine, sometimes nausea is too.
If you’re concerned that your headaches last a few days, talk to your doctor. You may need a stronger painkiller than can be safely taken over-the-counter.
