Q: Do my symptoms sound like a migraine head ache?
Pain in my temple area. Pulsating. Chills, slight feeling of nausea but no vomiting. I bent over and the pain went to the top of my head. I do not have light sensitivity. This has lasted abut at hour and a half. I took two ibuprofen but no relief.

A: if you develop a fever you need to go to the Dr ASAP to rule out meningitis. With the increased pain when you bend over I think that may be significant

Q: Are these Migraine symptoms?
are these common migraine symptoms

burning eyes
upset stomach
sensitive to light and sounds
massive headache

i have been having these for the last couple of weeks

what over the counter medicine would you suggest

A: Over the counter medicines don’t affect true migraine attacks. In fact, no pain killers will. They might make them go away for a bit, but that is it. If it’s really a migraine attack and not just a bad headache, the only things that might help you are certain prescription medications in the tiptan family or waiting it out with sleep, ice or heating pads (your choice), water, hot tea, etc. There are 3 classes of medications used to prevent migraines: anti-convulsants, anti-depressants, and blood-pressure meds. See a doctor if you think you need these thigns.

Q: shunt blockage migraine symptoms?
shunt blockage migraine symptoms

A: Anytime you have serious headaches with a shunt you should contact your doctor. Blockage, or worse yet an infection can be serious.

With my shunt, I know what is just a bad headache or if its a “pressure” headache, where my shunt is not draining properly.
Call your neurologist and get it checked out.

Q: migraine symptoms? weird!!!?
tell me your migraine symptoms, i have had numbness, sparkly vision and the most scary was not being able to understand what i was saying! my friend said a tea cup felt like a shot glass and changing a pillow felt like she was changing a quilt! trippy and freaky!!

A: First symptom is that I see colorful dots, than my left hand and left part of my face starts to numb and I can’t feel my tongue. Than that awful severe pain in the head starts and I feel nausea and sickness. I get light and sound sensitivity and I’m unable to speak. Sometimes, I throw up. It’s inherited disease.

Q: What illness would cause the symptoms: Migraine, dizziness, nausea, high fever (103.3) , and cold sweats?

A: The fever is a clue that your body is trying to fight off an infection, bacterial or viral. Sweats go with the fever. Does your head hurt worse when moving in certain directions? Is the pain in the front, sides, or down the back? Could be anything from a sinus infection to menningitis.

I suggest a trip to the doctor is in order.

Q: How can you stop a Migraine and what are the symptoms?
Thanks.
Can stress cause this?

A: I have an awful one right now too.
1. throbing head
2. nausea
3. seeing spots
4. light bothers me
5. sound bothers me

How to stop it?
Take Excedrin migraine. That works for me. Also, why did you get it? Lack of sleep? Hungry? If not and you get them often, here’s a bit of info.

I used to get migraines all the time, then I did a food diary and found out that there are some foods that I have sensitivities to. These are things that can cause migraines for some people:
processed foods (cold cuts, etc..)
food that has been sitting out for a while (chicken, pizza)
chocolate/coffee
too much yogurt/sour cream or aged cheese like swiss.

Q: What are YOUR migraine symptoms?
I have had migraines since I was 10 (I’m 22 now) and for the last week I have been experiencing really terrible pain that is similar to a migraine, but w/ COMPLETELY different symptoms than normal. I have been keeping in touch w/ my neurologist, and she has ordered me another MRI which I am waiting to get done. I’ve also had to go to Urgent Care a few times, and all of the doctors keep saying they are “hoping” that I’m having A-typical migraines… While I sit around and wait, in extreme pain and feeling disoriented, I was hoping that any of you who experience migraines could list off ALL symptoms that you have EVER had, so I can see the possibility of this being the case.
Thanks for helping put my mind at ease!! (or not… lol)

A: Sounds like you have Migraine Disease, like me. And when you went to Urgent Care, why didn’t they put you on a Phenagrin and Morphine drip?! Maybe you need to go to the Emergency Room instead. All of the garbage people say that they don’t see people without insurance is a lie, by law they have to treat you. And the bill, I used to be a bill collector, as long as you pay $20 a month there isn’t anything they can do.

Now then, you want to know my symptoms:
Blurred Vision ((sometimes))
Pain on one side of my head that at times will move down the back of my neck
Also, the side where the pain is, if you touch it it hurts even more.
Severe Nausea ((I take 25mg., Phenagrin when needed))
Light Sensitivity
Sound Sensitivity
Smell Sensitivity (Ajax, Peanut Butter, Dog Food, Cat Food, Oranges, Wine, Chocolate, PineSole)
Sometimes I will get numbness in my face, but I also have MS, and it could be from that

Now please, get to the hospital and get either a Toradol or Morphine drip!

Q: tell me all about your migraine symptoms?
ok so ive had migraines since i was 4. and seem to be growing out of them as they have cut down to only a few a year. i just wanted to know if anyone gets all the same symptoms. my symptoms are the exact same every time and i can often wake up knowing it feels like im gonna get a migraine that day.

First my head goes little fuzzy and my eyes feel strained, i then get a little black dot which gets bigger and bigger. while this is happenin i start to feel a little sick, my right arm always feels disattached almost like its not my arm, i get pins and needles in my tongue and then my fingers and arm. my vision gets so bad i can only see half of peoples face for example, i then lose basically all ability to think and talk, i turn into like a 4 year old learning things for the first time, i get a stammer, forget everything im saying, i forget names of things, and how to tell the time. a few hours of lying down in the dark with my migraine tablets and lose most of the symptoms and just left with REALLY sore head.

ive never known anyone with exact same symptoms yet so please tell me all yours. i have never figured out what causes mine, oh and i get a weird taste in mouth and things smell funny

A: Oh! Thank you for telling me about your symptoms. It makes me feel that I am not so alone!

First, I want to say that there are things that trigger my migraines, although sometimes I do not recall any trigger. Flashing strobe-like lights of any kind are a guaranteed migraine for me. One of the worst offenders is those little blinking lights on coupon machines in grocery stores, that alert the shopper, I walk around the corner, and the thing flashes at me, and that’s it. I’m going to have a migraine within 12 hours. Too much bright natural light causes a migraine. Also, any kind of sudden noise, such as a slamming door or voice I wasn’t expecting to hear, causes my vision to suddenly erupt into a fireworks display and that can only mean one thing.

Okay, so my vision goes “weird”. The migraiine doctor told me that this is called “fragmentation”. I just see things splintered and not as a whole picture. Yes, my eyes feel “strained”. It becomes very difficult to be in any sort of light at all. Oh, also, my eyes begin running uncontrollably, I mean, like I am crying.

Often, my left arm and fingers will go completely numb. Oh, the entire top of my head will go tingly, and also, grossest of all, the skin on my forehead will lift and move involuntarily. I also get a really, really stiff neck.

Yes, I also become disfunctional in speech and thought. If I try to speak, often words will come out in the wrong order. I can’t think of the word for an item I am holding in my hand. I do lose “parts” of things I am looking at—as you say, parts of people’s faces.

Then I may or may not start heaving. If I can take a certain medication at the very first symptom, such as my forehead moving all by itself, sometimes 2 times out of 5 the migraine will not come. But I have noticed that it then sneaks back the next day, and then it is there to stay.

My symptoms are sly and not the same every time, so many times they will get past me before I realize what is going on.

I also get different kinds of migraines. The living end worst for me is the “ice pick” which is localized in one spot on my head, which I can actually pinpoint. I am fine until, suddenly, it feels like a knife is slicing right through my skull. This sometimes literally brings me to my knees (I fall down) and then, when it has passed through me, I am okay until about 30 seconds later, when it happens all over again. This headache can last 5 days, or, once, I had an Ice Pick Migraine that lasted over 3 months, by which time, death was becoming a reasonable option.

Q: Eating Disorder Or Migraine Symptoms?
One of my friends has been worrying me lately. She never ate much before but lately it seems to me that she is not eating much at all. And she is drinking a lot of coffee. I mention this to her telling her I am worried that she is drinking too much coffee and not eating enough and she says she needs the coffee because she does not sleep at night. She also gets migraines which I guess I dont understand how serious they are but it seems like every week she has a migraine and when she does she will not eat at all. Does having a migraine cause one to not want to eat? Other symptoms I have noticed is that she has been losing weight. I also asked her about this and she denies she has lost weight. I know she has because all of her clothes just hang off her now. Someone please help. I dont know what to do. I am very worried about her and want to help but I dont know what to do, or even if I have something to worry about. Could it just be her migraine and insomnia or could it be something more serious?

A:

Okay for starters this Migraine thing is NOT true. She’s telling you this to make up an excuse to not eat and of course you’re buying it so she’ll keep using it until it gets old and you don’t believe it anymore then she’ll go to another excuse. “She’s been losing weight” that’s the biggest key to this right here. That’s your answer. She does need help. Umm she probably drinks coffee because it’s a stimulant and the caffeine makes your body work more and use more enegry.. thus it makes you not hungry. It takes away the hunger pains. She doesn’t sleep at night because she knows that when you sleep your body kinda goes into a shut down mode and you don’t really burn many calories when you’re sleeping. If you’re awake then your body burns twice the calories, also the caffeine from the non calorie coffee will help her stay awake. I know this all too well, I used to struggle with anorexia and these symptoms scream out HELP ME. She needs help and she needs it now.

Q: Migraine-like symptoms without the intensity of a migraine…?
I used to have migraines frequently as a teen, but thought I “grew out” of them (I’m 21) as they became few and far between. During the past few months I’ve had headaches with migraine-like symptoms (one-sided, nausea, visual stuff, serious fatigue) during PMS. The headache itself is pretty uncomfortable, but not nearly as bad as some of the migraines I’ve had in the past. Anyone else experience headaches like this? Is it possible to have migraine-like headaches with less pain?

A: Absolutely. I had minor headaches which were real headaches but not that bad, but also dizziness and nausea. The neurologist said it was migraine without a doubt. Sent me in for an MRI just to be safe and put me on Topamax which is something I hope you do not have to take.

Q: are these migraine symptoms?
Hello, I’ve had these headaches lately(Occasionally)
Whenever I had these headaches I felt pain on the left side on my head, Dizziness,Nausea, and Neck pain.
Now I have these pain, I know its coming and that I shouldn’t be on the computer but, I’m curious because Now I have: pain on the left side on my head, Dizziness,Nausea, Neck pain, And ear pain, I never experienced ear pain and the weird thing is that its always on the left side of my head,
and Whenever I go to the pool I get these pain. (I think its when i go to the pool).
Help me, Do I have Migraine Symptoms?

A: It’s possible that you’re describing migraine symptoms, but these symptoms can also be described by a lot of things.

During a proper migraine you likely would not be able to get out of bed and would need to stay in the dark.

If it ONLY happens when you go to the pool it might be that you have some sort of allergy to the chlorine that they use to treat the pool. Inhaling these kind of chemicals can also cause these symptoms.

I suggest you see a doctor if the symptoms come when not related to visiting the swimming pool.

Q: What are some symptoms of a migraine?
Like, besides the headache. Hahah.

A: Weird visual effects often precede a migraine. I get a small patch somewhat off center of my vision, so I can’t exactly “look at” it, that is inverted, as in upside down. It makes me think of a computer monitor gone wacky in a small patch of the screen.

Some folk report “stars” or “fireworks” types of visual effects before a migraine.

In extreme cases, blindness occurs (not a “black” or “dark” visual impression, like at night or when your eyes are closed, but a lack of any visual input). This is my wife’s experience.

Apparently, this is from a lack of oxygen to the brain, caused by constricted blood vessels, usually the result of tension or excitement. Depression can precipitate this effect. The reduced blood flow causes the weird visual effects, and then triggers the headache.

Some folk experience the pain with no warning at all, or the visual effects are so insignificant as to escape notice. That’s when the other symptoms noted here come in to play.

If you tend to have migraines, it is worthwhile to either seek medical attention, as some recent medications can relieve the symptoms, or, more importantly, address the source of the tension or anxiety that causes the blood constriction in the first place. Sometimes, a change of situations can eliminate the problem.

Q: anyone know how to tell the difference between the symptoms of a stroke and a migraine attack?
i have suffered from migaines for nearly 20 years and the sympoms aren’t just a headache. they also include numbness confusion and slurred speech

A: This is a very good and important question as some migraine sufferes.

Probably one of the best differentiating symptoms are that with stroke you rarely get a headache.

Also with a stroke you will have weakness/visual loss/speech or swallowing difficulties that do not resolve.

Of course, you will get used to your migraine attacks and if you get weird symptoms that you don’t think are you migraine and you’re worried, then just ring 999 and get into hospital.

Hope this helps.

Q: headache and migraine symptoms help?
I had a huge headache/migraine(dunno which) and I felt very nauseated towards the end of the day. After waking up I don’t have a headache, but I still kinda feel a little nauseated(not as much). Is this normal?

A: I suffer from frequent migraines, which usually include a sensitivity to light and sound as well as nausea and/or vomiting.

I am unable to take the usual medications, so here’s what works for me (please, check with your own physician prior to taking any medications).

I take two extra-strength Tylenol and 600mg of ibuprofen with a large glass of water and then lay down with an ice pack in a dark, quiet room. For nausea, your doctor can prescribe an anti-emetic or you can simply try something like dramamine – which is an over the counter anti-emetic.

If these suggestions help your headache, great. But, if you continue to have them or they worsen, please see your physician.

Q: please decipher my blood test and does it have any connection to migraine symptoms.?
I recently had to visit the hospital after feeling disorientated at work. When I got to the hospital I had a serious throbbing headache. My experience happened in Puerto Rico. The medical care I received was a joke. They forgot about me in the waiting room. I waited 4 hours with no help. The only thing I accomplished at the hospital was getting my blood taken. The staff couldn’t speak English and I felt me being there was pointless so I left after 4-5 hours after feeling fine, just having a terrible headache.

For 7 months after this I was completely fine until I came back home from surfing one day in the hot sun and began to feel disorientated again. My right hand felt a little numb and I had a throbbing headache again for 5 hours or more. I went online to a Medical service where a person pays a fee and can chat online with doctors instead of having to go through visiting a hospital. The doctor commented that she believes I experienced a “Classical Migraine with Aura”. This was due to the fact I had exercised a lot prior to my throbbing headaches and the symptoms I explained about the numbness and disorientation both times seem to fit the category.

The reason I am hesitant to make a big deal about seeking medical care is because I have a very high profile job which requires a strict yearly physical and I fear the fallout if bringing this to my managements attention and the other reason is I am simply living in a 3rd world country when it comes to medical care.

The hospital visit from 8 months ago or so came back with the following blood test results:
All results were normal however, the following things were high (flagged):
WBC – 12.50 Normal levels: 4.5-11.0 K/uL
RDW – 14.7 Normal levels: 11.5- 14.5%
Neutrophils – 81.70 Normal levels: 47-76%

BMP/

Glucose- 107 Normal levels:74-106mg/dl
Creatine-1.33 Normal levels:0.8-1.3mg/dl
Carbon Dioxide-32.5 Normal levels: 21-32mmol/L

Thanks for the help
cheers

A: As you are probably aware, this is not an expert site. You will not get good medical advice here, sorry. And there are real doctors here to properly interpret your blood work.

A likely suspect for your problem might be dehydration, which often can cause disorientation and migraines. The ’surfing in the hot sun’ leads me to suspect this might have been part of the issue in your second episode; is there a liklihood that it was one in the first, as well? Hydration is critical to the body, especially for people that are prone to migraines.

Now, there are also hundreds of other ‘triggers’ that can cause migraines – and many other things that can cause disorientation WITH migraine. Many of these can be critical health issues. So you have to ask yourself, which is MORE important? Knowing and treating what your problem may be? or fallout at your high-profile job? Bearing in mind that people who suffer migraines are at higher risk of strokes and other health problems.
